Electro Polishing Process
Precision Surface Treatment by Ambika Industries
Introduction to Our Electro Polishing Methodology
At Ambika Industries, we combine decades of expertise with modern infrastructure to deliver highly precise and repeatable electro polishing results. Our process is meticulously designed to ensure enhanced corrosion resistance, superior surface finish, improved hygiene, and visual brilliance for stainless steel and other specialty metal components.
Whether you need mirror-finish polishing for pharmaceutical pipelines, medical tools, or aerospace parts, our step-by-step process ensures every product exceeds quality expectations.
Step-by-Step Electro Polishing Process
Before electro polishing, each component undergoes a thorough cleaning to remove grease, oil, and particulate matter using:
- Alkaline detergents
- Solvent degreasers
- Ultrasonic agitation (for delicate parts)
This step ensures that no organic residue interferes with the electrochemical reaction.
Cleaned components are rinsed with deionized or RO water to neutralize the cleaning agents.
For certain alloys or heavily oxidized surfaces, chemical activation may be done to ensure uniform current distribution during electro polishing.
Core Process – Here’s how it works:
- Components are suspended in specially designed fixtures or jigs.
- Submerged in an acid-based electrolyte (typically phosphoric-sulfuric blend).
- Direct current (DC) is applied: the part acts as the anode (+), and a cathode (-) completes the circuit.
- High points on the surface dissolve faster, resulting in a microscopically smooth, bright finish.
Controlled Parameters:
- Voltage & current density
- Temperature of the bath
- Immersion time
- Agitation & electrolyte flow
Immediately after electro polishing, parts are rinsed to halt the electrochemical reaction and remove residual acids.
A mild alkaline solution is used to neutralize acidic traces and ensure safe handling.
- Final rinse with deionized water to eliminate any impurities.
- Components are air-dried or dried in hot chambers depending on part geometry.
- Visual Inspection for uniformity and gloss
- Surface Roughness Testing (Ra Values)
- Dimensional Check (if required)
- Surface Finish & Passivation Certificates issued upon request

In-House Fixture & Jig Design
Electro polishing of irregular or delicate components often requires custom-built jigs and cathodes. At Ambika Industries, we:
- Design and fabricate jigs to suit part geometry
- Ensure uniform current distribution for even polishing
- Prevent shadowing and edge burning
This enables consistent, repeatable polishing across complex shapes and high-volume parts.
Quality & Documentation
We follow strict quality protocols at every stage:
- Process Validation with every batch
- Surface finish inspection reports
- Third-party lab testing available
- Full traceability and documentation for pharma, medical, and aerospace clients
Advantages of Our Electro Polishing Services
- Mirror-bright finish with micro-level smoothness
- Ra < 0.2 µm for pharma and medical applications
- Reduced contamination and improved sterilization
- Durable, corrosion-resistant surfaces
